microsoft messenger for mac keeps signing me out

I installed Microsoft Messenger for Mac in my MacBook so I can communicate with friends. After I log-in I receive the following message and I'm immediately logged-out of the program:

"The system is unavailable now so you have been signed out of Microsoft Messenger"

My system is Mac OS X 10.5.6
