Recently reverted to 10.1.2

This is good cause I had to revert recently to the 10.1.2 update. Powerpoint kept crashing on me while updated Master pages... very annoying.

Well what I really wanted was a performance update. But I'll still take this.

Now I'll have a chuckle at how many people give this story a negative because it has "Microsoft" in it. Which would be worse, the bugs left in or them fixing them?

Well it seems to me that Office loads considerably faster now. I'm not sure if it has sped up just the boot time or the whole thing but so far its purring like a kit-oh excuse me, Panther ;-)

Visual basic

What is Visual Basic for applications? I dont use Office X, does it come with Visual Basic?

edit: corrected the typo

Just ran it, not that I ahd any problems with 1.4, but it does appear the apps launch much quicker!

The Office v.X ships with a streamlined version of Visual Basic to support Office Macro development. I don't think you can use it for much else except building macros and form templates.

With the 10.1.4 version I thought things were faster as well. Specifically scolling and opening documents seem to be much faster. Before, Word would come to a crawl in serveral places in large documents (100+ pages) I was editing. This alone was a welcomed enhancement.

I hate using Word and PowerPoint, but I have to. I used to love WordPerfect and Harvard Graphics. But, everybody I work with uses Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as a standard making Office v.X a must.

I actually like Office v.X compared to Office 2000 and XP.

Now that it seems visibly faster, so much the better!

How about my Virtual PC update? When is that coming? Cause I'm going to need it real soon as my shiny new G5 Powerbook is delivered for Christmas :D

I'm willing to wager that VPC won't be updated for quite some time. They may just put it out at Version 7 with an entirely new emulation engine designed by MS. Perhaps it will be better though I question whether it will happen at all.

Huh? They give us an update that causes problems and have to come out quickly with another to fix to repair the damage?

I run to update my machines when Apple puts them out. I lurk from the weeds when MS comes out with something and come out for the download when I know it is safe.

At least they didn't wait for 6 months to come out with this latest bit of honey.

However, why should we have to download the previous version that will have to be repaired by the latest update? You would think they could at least pull the previous one.

Nice. Very impressive. I was running 10.1.3 and just upgraded to 10.1.5. Load time is cut in half. Overall stabilty is improved and seems a little more zippy.

Stability...

Not sure if this was a stability issue, but using MS Word and AOL at the same time was the only thing that would cause problems. I will see if this helps anything.

I am forced to use a Windows XP system at work so the Microsoft Office 10.1.4 was a welcome sight at home!

print issues

Has anyone had any problems printing with MS Office?

I've installed all of the updates, but for some reason, Word refuses to print more than one page at any given time. That means I have to print out 4 page reports, one page at a time. It starts to get really bad if I'm dealing with 20+ pages. This only occurs in Word. Printing works fine with Appleworks, Text Edit, BBEdit, etc. I'm running 10.2.6 and have an HP 950C.

Save as PDF, then print from Acrobat. Still a hassle, but much faster than printing one page at a time.

Scroll stability

Try inserting a formula that refers to another worksheet in Excel. Type "=" and then click on the other worksheet, and then try using the scroll wheel (on my MS Intellimouse!) to scroll down/up in the 2nd worksheet.

Excel crashes!

repeatedly.

Anybody here using Entourage with Exchange? I need to set up an test for a client. (I am on 10.1.4 and I am not impressed with the "Exchange server connectivity.":)) I think I have to enable LMAP services for it to work correctly. (On the Exchange Server) The long term goal is for him to be able to sync his palm to entourage on Exchange....

(I know lofty dreams for a humble Mac user in a PC world. :))

is there any way to tell what version you have currently installed? i can't remember if i installed 10.1.3 and .4 or not. using "get info" on the various office applications reveals that some are 10.0 and some are 10.1.
