A religiously oppressed state
When I open Microsoft Word I get an error message saying there was an error reading the Microsoft Office frame work. This started this morning (everything was fine when I went to bed last night) but now the apps will either not launch at all or display this message. Reinstalling isn't an option right now, I do have a full hard drive back up so I can replace the framework from there. Where is this framework? I have to write a paper and need help quick.

---Thank so much.

mac version?

try delete preference files for office from your library.

Yup Mac version.

After deleting the preferences Word launches (other Office Apps don't) and I still get this message.

Quit Word and kill the Database Daemon using Activity Monitor if it's running.

Try updating Office as well.

I'm surprised that trashing ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data didn't work though.

Is your copy of Office up to date? I remember I had this problem and the solution was to update it. Cleared the problem right up.

You might need to download the combo updater from Apple and run it again rather than using Software Update. Doing so overwrites potentially problem-causing files. Several users have reported this fixed some odd problems they were having with Entourage.

http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/combo.html

Just to reiterate:

Option 1) If you receive a framework error, re-apply recent updates. A framework error normally means one or more components of Office have not been updated correctly and are now out of synch with other bits.

Option 2) The "Framework error" is basically a (generic) message indicating the application can't connect to the Database or to the expected information inside the Database. The reasons may differ and so may the methods to solve it.

Some users have resorted to deleting the MUD folder, but before you do that try some other methods (repairing permissions, rebuilding the Database,...) before you take a drastic action like deleting the MUD folder.

You can test Entourage in a new Identity to eliminate database problems. You can test in a new User (create a new User in System Preferences) to eliminate problems in your User's folder.
