2011 brought back macro support; is there a specific excel feature you are worried about. If you have a mac now, you can download a full 30 day trial to test it out from Microsoft's website.

I never experience compatibility problems

I use MS Office for Mac, especially Excel, on a daily basis. I regularly share Excel files with Windows users, with no problems at all. I've never encountered something I needed to do that couldn't be done by both the Windows and Mac versions.
