This was released a couple of days ago, but the build date of the application itself is 4/11/03 - 6 weeks ago! What do MS do all day? Build a product then sit on it for 6 weeks? It can't take that long to test it... mind you, we are talking about MS here :rolleyes:

They probably sat on it knowing folks would complain and blame it on Apple or something.

so what's faster?

-running PC programs on my 800 mhz G4 iBook through VPC?

-remote desktopping it to my Athlon box?

That really depends on quite a few factors;

- what is the speed of your Athlon? Anything above an xp1600+ will probably beat the G4 on most things.

- what kind of apps are we talking here?

- what network connection do you have? And how much of the bandwidth can you reserve for your usage?

- what resolution does the remote app. run? Is it CPU or graphic intensive?

There are other factors as welI, but these should be the most important ones...

OK in case anyone's still reading this thread:

programs I need to run on Windows:
-AutoCAD 2002
-Rhino
-3DStudioMax

I'm guessing for any kind of rendering, it'd be better to remote desktop it and just let my Athlon box (1.3 ghz I think) do the rendering on its own. I can't imagine doing any kind of 3d graphics-related work on VPC. So my question focusses almost exclusively on AutoCAD. I'll most likely run AutoCAD on 1024x768 resolution. Pretty high I guess.

As for bandwidth, I should have plenty to spare. I'm on a fast LAN at my school and the iBook and Athlon box will share a router.

Most likely I'll probably just end up using the Athlon box on its own since I have an external monitor for it. But I just like the idea of doing everything THRU my Mac. Does Remote Desktop or VNC let me exchange files easily between my Mac and PC? I find Panther's existing PC networking to be unreliable.
