Yesterday I got the automatic update from Microsoft (KB4056892), after a requested reboot the Windows 10 running in a Parallels VM was partly broken. My Windows 10 is installed in a BootCamp partition. My macOS is still Sierra without APFS. Parallels is patched to the latest version. I have a maxed out MBP 15" from 2017.

When I uninstalled the security patch from Microsoft, everything worked again after the required reboot. To prevent reinstalling the patch I followed a tip from

The problem I have is that KB4056892 is waiting to install on the next boot. How do I stop that?

1) Go to :

For what it's worth, I have a stock 2015 MBP running Sierra. It has Parallels 13.2.0 (43213) with a Win 10 Enterprise VM, but not from a partition.

I applied that patch and have not had any issues. I recall other Microsoft patches having issues based on locale; mine is US English.

I did experience one oddity. During the installation, other Office patches were also being installed. This particular patch had a status of "Awaiting restart." The system did not prompt me to restart at all, but when I did restart, it went through the normal updating Windows procedure (i.e. "Working on updates", "Don't turn off your computer", etc).
