Microsoft Silverlight

Does anyone know if Microsoft Silverlight program a required program on a Mac? I keep getting this reminder to update silverlight. I believe Silverlight came installed on my rMBP when I purchased it in 2012. I don't remember installing it. If the program is not necessary I wish to uninstall it, otherwise I will install the update. Thanks.

Microsoft Silverlight is not used very much anymore and I think Microsoft still supports it but they basically gave up on it . You should keep it because you never know when you might need to use it so its good to have . It really does not use much space .

I believe Silverlight came installed on my rMBP when I purchased it in 2012.

If you purchased your MBP new it certainly did not come with Silverlight.

Opened Macmall's web page tonight and immediately got a message to update Microsoft Silverlight. 2013 Macbook Pro 13 purchased this past January. Absolutely did NOT install Silverlight on this machine.

Anyone got any guesses? Some sort of new Trojan?
