Can a mid 2007 iMac accept and recognize a SSD and more than 4GB of ram? I am trying to make a decision on upgrading or buying a new 21" (for where I am putting it 27" is too big).

Yes, they can use nearly any 2.5" or 3.5" SSD with their SATA II bus. They can see and use up to 6GB of ram in the form of one 2GB and one 4GB stick.

Thanks. So now I have to decide if it is worth it to buy a SSD and 4gb stick of ram or just get a new one.

I have the same machine with a Samsung 830 SSD and 6GB of RAM and it just great.

Now it isn't some powerful number crunching machine but it is definitely speedy enough for what I use it for. Internet Browsing, iTunes, PDF's, some light CAD work in my garage.

I just upgraded my 2007 iMac last week with a 512 Gig SSD. Whole job cost about $260. Wow is my machine fast now. So brilliant for a 7 year old rig. Still rocking 4GB ram, not sure I need 6.

I say go for it.
