Hey all,

A couple of years ago, my mid-2007 15" MacBook Pro succumbed to the seemingly inevitable failure of the GeForce 8600M graphics card...
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2377

Surprisingly, Apple agreed to replace the logic board, despite the computer being a good few months outside of the four-year window for that program.

I'm just wondering now, was the graphics card design on these replacement logic boards actually FIXED, or is replacing the logic board just a stopgap measure to extend the life by another few years? :/ I've had a hard time actually finding a definitive answer online, which is why I'm assuming it's fixed... and I'd love to get another few years out of this thing. :)

Cheers

If you dig through the big thread in this forum about it, you will see that a lot of them failed repeatedly even after replacement. There's no evidence that the GPU is actually different in later boards.
