My battery on my MBP has been dying out rather quickly lately, and I've been seeing a message occasionally that says it needs to replaced soon.

Where is the best place to get one? I want to make sure I'm buying the right one.

You can find them on eBay, however I recommend going to Apple directly and getting them to replace it for you

Go to the Apple Store. You'll get a brand new battery with no cycles on it. I got one in December 2013 for mine.

How much will it cost if I don't have a warranty?

If I recall it's about $200 for the battery and the labor for install. That's with or without warranty. Batteries are considered consumable parts so unless they fail extremely early (like in the first year or so) you'll have to pay for a replacement. Since the 09 is almost 6 years old, a battery starting to age now is well within the norm.

Buy it from amazon and have a local apple repair shop put it in, or do it yourself, instructions are on youtube. . its an easy repair. apple will just rip you off.

Arn't the 2009 batteries just click in place, unlike the current models that are glued in? I'd just buy them on amazon and replace the existing battery.

The 09 have a non-user replaceable battery as per Apple. It requires a tri-wing screw driver. But they are not glued on like the rMBP or MBA.
