I was on windows vista with bootcamp, and I had just installed the latest driver set for the nvidia 9400m. i went into the nvidia performance tool to change the graphics settings for a game and it froze. the cursor wouldn't move or anything. I waited a bit and it was still frozen so I forced shutdown with the power button (no biggie right? I've done it before and it was fine...)

booted into osx but it froze at the apple on the grey screen after the gear spun for awhile. i tried it again a few times and that kept happening, so i tried starting it in windows, which i was able to do successfully, but only if i started in windows safe mode. if i tried starting vista "normally" it would freeze at roughly the same point in the boot as osx. I restored windows to a point before i installed the new drivers thinking that might be the problem, and was also able to save some important files from my mac drive to vista, and they were not corrupted. i still got the same problem freezing at the apple wehn restarting. I went on to try booting osx in safe mode, which did nothing, (still freezing at apple) and then boot from the disk where i repaired the macintosh HD and repaired permissions as well. it said everything was fine. that was the only time it successfully started from the disk. I restarted and it still froze, so I tried booting from the install disk again and again to erase the drive but it just kept freezing at the same point. I tried the fsck repair, and the first time it ran through it said "the volume appears to b OK" and then right after said *** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED **** when i ran the command again it just said it appears to be ok. I rebooted through the coommand prompt and it froze once again. I tried starting it a few times in verbose mode, and it always freezes after saying "dsmos has arrived," and thats it.

I'm taking it to the apple store tomorrow, but i just wanted to see if there is something else i should try. sorry for the length i didn't want to leave anything out.

I swear this macbook is cursed though, if I have to have the drive replaced it will be an entirely new computer from when i bought it. EVERYTHING has had a problem and been replaced. screen, keyboard, logic board, new RAM. the only thing left is the bottom removable plate, and maybe the battery, but i think thats been done too. thankfully all those were under warranty, but for this i'm out of luck, lol
