Ok for the last couple of weeks whenever I have shutdown my MacBook and tried to turn it on, it will boot up for a few seconds with the apple chime and then immediately shutdown, now 9 times out of 10 when I power it on again it will boot up not a problem and runs perfectly fine.

Now the other night, it did its usual start up problem, and when I put it to sleep for the night come next morning it was completely dead no start up noises nothing even though it was still on the charger. So anyway I took off the back cover and gave it a gentle dusting (on a side note there was a lot of dust/fluff underneath) and disconnected the battery terminal and then replugged it in.

This time it booted up again but still with the same issue I had in the first place. Could anyone give me a possible diagnoses.

It could be the battery. Take it into the Apple Store and let them diagnose the issue.
