I have a mid 2009 macbook, 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo with 2 gigs of ram. Would a refurbished macbook air with a 1.6 ghz dual core i5 and 2 gigs of ram be faster?
 
It would seem faster due to the SSD inside, but you could add 6 GB more RAM to your MacBook and also add an SSD (256 GB can be had for less than 200 USD nowadays, the Samsung 830 for example).
