So, I have a mid-2010 15" MacBook Pro with the high resolution anti-glare display, 256GB Apple OEM (Toshiba) SSD and 8GB of ram. I purchased this new in August of 2010, and had one logic board replaced already in 2012, because of this kernel panic video issue. Now, and especially since upgrading to Yosemite, I'm getting this kernel panic at least twice per day and rather erratically. Today, I saw an article where Apple is repair 2011-2013 models with this issue, but those of us with 2010's are left out in the cold; even-though they basically admit it was a defect.
So, now I am stuck deciding whether to repair or replace my MacBook Pro. I'm looking for thoughts, suggestions, etc?
Recently I've moved to the iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Air 2 from previous devices, so I naturally thought, what the heck, I'll get a new MacBook Pro as well. But I'm torn on this issue.
If I were to buy one today, I'd get the 15" with the i7 upgraded processor, 1TB SSD and 16GB ram; however, I realize that we may be about to get a refresh, so part of me says to wait a little bit and see...
Does anyone know what the repair cost is for a mid-2010 that most likely needs a replacement logic board? Can I buy the part and do it myself? Or should I just scrap the old boy and move towards the newer platform as it's almost 5 years old at this point.
