Hi, forum

I have a 15" MBP:

  • Mid 2010 6,2 15" MacBook Pro
  • Hi Res Display (1680*1050); replaced with genuine part after small accident (issue developed a year after installation)
  • Intel Core i7 620M 2.66GHz
  • 8GB 1066MHz Corsair Memory (issue predates installation of memory)
  • Intel 520 180GB SSD (issue developed on this drive, but a few months after installation)
  • Original Hitachi 500GB HDD in optibay (instaled well before issue appeared)

The issue is simple: every time I connect anything (ranging from external hard drives to receivers for wireless peripheral) into either of the USB ports on the laptop, the laptop stops responding for a few seconds. The laptop keeps running (videos don't pause or stutter, webpages keep rendering, et al), but the mouse and keyboard stop working entirely. After a few seconds, the cursor jumps back into action.

It's really not that bad, considering how infrequently I use USB devices, but I would like to figure it out and rid myself of this minor inconvenience.

tl;dr: every time I connect something into a USB port, the mouse and keyboard stop working for a few seconds.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Raptor

P.S.: All hardware repairs have been performed by me, since I purchased the laptop from another company. The only true modification is the Optibay.
