Hello

I'm thinking of upgrading to the new rMBP 13" with 2,6 GHz and 512 SSD. I'm planning it should last me 4-5 years.

Currently I have the 2010 MBP with Core i5 2,4 GHz and a samsung 830 256 gb SSD and the nvidia 330m. Two years ago I bought the Apple Cinema Display 27" (the one before the thunderbolt edition). And the pair works very well.

However, after I got the 27" monitor at home, I do not have the same need for the 15" screen and would rather get the new 13" which weighs a lot less. (2,45 kg vs 1,55 kg).

I would use it for school (only 8 months left), movies, a little gaming (Heroes of Newerth) and office, primarily excel and word. Maybe I would use it for work when school is over.

My main concern is the GPU. Is going from 330m to the intel 5100 a downgrade? I want the 13" to be able to run the 27" flawlessly and I do not want a performance downgrade GPU-wise. I know the CPU is faster, and battery is probably around the same, which is fine. I have been considering the Air too, but considering the price difference is only 100$ between the 8gb256i5 air and the same spec'ed rMBP, I rather have the Retina display than the 3 extra battery hours.

Would it be a wise upgrade?

Same Boat

Hi, I'm in the same boat - 2010 15" base MBP to 2013 13" MBP.
I think that the 330m is old enough that you should see a boot in GPU performance despite the Iris 5100 being integrated.
I think the 5200 is on par wight he 650m, but I haven't seen a review of the 5100, though I've heard that anandtech did one. I'd probably check that site if you are curious.
