Hey everyone , after sweeping the web for articles and info on updates , I feel I have come to a conclusion for my upgrade. I am aware I can spend the money on newer gear , but I would like to pimp my Mac Pro and here’s what my objective is.
To make it a beast to last me another 5 years ( I mostly do audio pre production and dabble in video and all my hardware that attaches to it will not be changing in the next 5 yeads )
currently i have a
5,1 mid 2010 Mac Pro
12 core
2.93ghz
32gb Ram
8TB HD
Gtx970
And what I want to upgrade to is
CPU 5690
Radeon rx 580
Samsung 951 512gb AHCI SSD for boot
2x Samsung evo 960 NVMe m.2 512gb in raid 0 for scratch
96gb ram
Now my question is about the parts I wanna put in the PCIe sockets and how they may affect their performance . For example if I put my AHCI for booting in PCIe 4x socket it will be the fastest it can be on a PCIe Gen 2 socket .. but what happens when I put two m.2 NVMe SSD in the PCIe 3 + 2 lanes in raid 0? What type of performance drop would I get ?
Is this a silly setup/ upgrade ? How would you do it ?
Any thoughts or comments , concerns and questions are surely welcome !
Thanks in advance
