ok, not for me but for a friend.

he has an Apple iMac 2.8GHz Intel-Quad Core i5 Mid 2010

very heavy photoshop user, keeps getting beach ball, and lots of hard drive noises when he cant do anything

RAM is obvious, its on its way.He only had 8Gb and had lots of page outs and swaps.

i tried to persuade him to put an internal ssd in his mac but he just does not have the time to not have his mac, even for a few hours.

so my question is this, as there is no USB3 or thunderbolt. Only firewire and USB 1 or 2 (not sure)

how much can be gained from using a good ssd externally via firewire. My intention is to put the OS and photoshop plus the batch of photos he is working on on it.

and can anyone recommend a decent sized one?
Many thanks for your help
