I've had my magsafe charger replace once before for intermittent problems with it not charging and the send one has recently started to have problems
it starts to get really hot and eventually just shorts out the macbook itself and i have to wait around a minute before i can start it back up

I'd go ahead and replace it, having a charger that is having issues hooked up to the logic board, the most expensive part of your computer, is not a chance that I'd want to be taking. definitely worth the 40 buck on ebay to get another magsafe charger. You might also try taking it into apple because I hear that magsafe maybe replacing some chargers from a while back
