Is there anyway to disable the Nvidia dGPU?

Currently the MBP turns on and after a few minutes in OS X switches off, presumably because of overheating/to protect itself.

It's a shame if there's no way to disable it, as it would be useful as a backup.
 
Have you tried the software fix? Have you tried removing any dust that may be impeding air flow? Tried replacing thermal paste?

I replaced the c9560 capacitor on my Macbook and replaced the thermal too. The original paste was pretty dry.
