I have a mid-2010 15" MBP that recently began having issues with the nvidia graphics -- it would kernal panic any time the card was stressed. Before I took it in to have it serviced, I removed the SSD that I had installed and replaced it with the stock HDD. I did this the night before I took it to the store, and all appeared well.
Eight days after I took the MBP in, having heard nothing from Apple, I called the store to inquire on its status. After some waiting, I was informed that the unit showed evidence of water damage and thus could not be repaired under warranty. This floored me. So I asked what the evidence was, and they said that when they opened it up, there was water in it -- like actual water, not water sensors that had been previously triggered.
Anyway, I declined to have them repair it for ~$1100. I need to go pick up the unit. Any advice as to how to proceed? I doubt that there is any way that I can prove that there was no water damage, but I can't for the life of me figure out how actual water would be in the unit less than 24 hours after I had it open (well, I have no idea how soon they opened it after it was dropped off, but you get the idea).
Very strange. Any advice would be much appreciated. I've never had any trouble with Applecare / warranty service before.
