Hi,

I have the above iMac which is an i5 - which seems to have a strange problem in that the Mac works fine, can shut down and restart - no issues - ( except for AHT fault code: 4HDD/30/40000005:SATA(0,0) ) if the mains power lead is left in and with power applied but if the mains power is disconnected - it will not turn back on - but will power back on as normal if left overnight unplugged - suspect iMac power supply maybe or could it be the hard drive ???

There is a very, very faint click from the bottom right corner of the main unit when it won't power on ??

Any suggestions or experience would be gratefully appreciated !!

Best suggestion is to "go with what works".

That would be, "leave it plugged into the mains all the time".

This might be an aging power supply, or it might be affected by a weak or depleted motherboard battery.

I don't think either are worth the cost of replacing for a 7-year-old computer.

I'd just "go with the workaround that works" -- as you found above.
