I'm posting this here because I don't think its OS X or software related but who knows...

I have an Mid-2011 21" iMac, over the last few months I've noticed that randomly I'll lose my internet connection.. I'll just be surfing the net, go to load a page and the blue bar just hangs about 1/4 of the way through. I've let it sit up to 10 minutes and it doesn't error out it just hangs. I can close the browser and re-open and it does the same thing. The only cure for it is to disable the wireless and then re-enable it and I re-establish my connection. (I'm always on wireless, router is too far away for a cable). When its connected I have great signal strength. I'd say this happens on average 2x a day.

I have a VerizonFIOS Modem/router making the connection into the house and then have an Airport Extreme router supplying the Wifi (the Verision Wireless Router part is disabled). Its a previous generation Apple Extreme router, not the tall one they have now. I don't think its router related just because everything else works.. I have a handful of other devices connected to the same router (2 PC laptops, 5 iPads, 3 phones, a printer, a TV, Xbox, Wii, AppleTV) - it doesn't happen with any of them - just the iMac.

I had this happen with Mountain Lion, I was hoping that upgrading to Mavericks would help but I'm still experiencing it. I'm thinking its a bad wireless card - I do have AppleCare on this but wanted to rule everything out before lugging the thing into the Apple Store and potentially having to leave it.
