I've just noticed a couple of bright spots right in the lower right corner of my screen. Machine is covered by AppleCare and having spoken to Apple they are happy to replace the screen.

I currently have the Samsung panel and experience no backlight bleed etc. Apart from these marks, which now I've seen them I can't stop staring at them, the panel is perfect.

Are replacement panels part of the "Display lottery" or are they always a particular make?

I had a LG display on my 2012 11" MBA and it was replaced with a LG display. Both displays were/are absolutely flawless. My hinge was the problem on the first one.

But to answer your question, I'm sure its a display lottery.

Apple will usually replace it like-for-like as they will charge Samsung for a "faulty part".
