My daughter is graduation high school in a few months and her MacBook Pro is running great, but that 5400 RPM HD needs to go. So I might throw in a 512 SSD, and I was thinking about the RAM. It has 4GB of RAM and it will official take 8, but reading, it will supper 16GB. Is 16GB overkill? I figured if I did this, she would probably be fine all though college.

Depends on what she is using it for. Most likely, 8 would be fine. But if you want to bite the bullet now, and get 16, then that should be good for MANY years to come.

I definitely agree. Especially for the $30 or so difference, it's hard not to just max it now.

I think I'm just going to do the 16GB and be done with it. If I get 8, then needed 16, it will cost more in the long run.

Well you don't know what she is using the computer for and she possibly doesn't need more than 4GB, do the SSD swap and see how it goes with the RAM, she might not need any but unless she is running VM's or some intensive apps she won't need 16GB.

I ordered the 16 GB of RAM. When I see her on it, she has 20 things open now on it. 8GB would be fine, but for $25 more, get twice as more, so I went with it. I don't need a V8 in my car either, but I like it
