Hey hey,

I may be just being lazy here but I have a mid 2012 macbook pro 13" and just bought a new display which I want to hook up as a second monitor. The display takes HDMI and all the usual suspects. Problem is I'm using the two USB hubs for a hard-drive and an iLk and the thunderbolt port for a sound card and so the only available ports are firewire 800 and ethernet. It's my understanding that neither will work to communicate with my monitor or such cables don't exist. Does that mean I'd have to get like a powered thunderbolt hub or something? how can i get my second display screen to come join the party?

Given your current config, it sounds like a Thunderbolt (1) hub would be perfect.. and would only require 2 cables (tbolt/power) be disconnected when you're heading out.
