I'm taking my mid-2012 13 inch Air in to the Apple Store tonight to get a new battery put in (my current battery doesn't hold a great charge anymore). Is there any chance they'll be able to replace it on the spot or is it going to get sent out for a few days?

There's a chance they will be able to replace it on the spot. If they have a replacement battery on-hand, and a screwdriver, then it should only take a few minutes. It's not an involved process at all.

But there's no guarantee they will do it on the spot of course.
