Hi All, I have mid-2012 Macbook Air, which I have given to my daughter for school work. I wont say it works perfectly, its old I get it, but it was working okay. In an attempt to improve its functioning, I wanted to erase everything, so I followed these instructions - https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201065

When I got to the reinstall MacOS stage, initially when it said choose a location to install, there were no locations, I read that I needed to add a partition, that problem was solved, then tried to reinstall MacOS Lion, it failed anyway.

I have since read so many forums, guides and nothing has worked, I am also not an advanced user, so I am now overwhelmed.

This page says my model is compatible with Lion - https://eshop.macsales.com/guides/Mac_OS_X_Compatibility
But I read elsewhere that I should try to install MacOS Catalina for my model. So, I tried to download this from my iMAC via itunes, after downloading the 8G the installer kicks in (and obviously fails), but I can't locate the file anywhere. I have tried to follow instructions to make a bootable disk installer, no luck, ever tried this - https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/install-macos-catalina-unsupported-mac/ but got the error "An error occurred while attempting to save the basesystem image", despite using a 15G USB.

I dont know what to do from here, I am assuming Apple wont help because of the age of the device. If I had have know this would be so difficult, I would have left it!!

Any help would be warmly appreciated.
