So I have a mid-2012 MacBook Air. 11", 128GB SSD, 4GB RAM, blah blah blah

Anyways, it has 2 USB ports (1 on either side of the laptop). Are they both USB 3.0, or is just one of them? If so, which?

Also, when I upgrade to Yosemite, will these USB chargers charge my phone faster than they do now? I have heard that they will and will charge faster than the 5W iPhone chargers and will be more comparable to the 12W iPad chargers. Is this true?

They are both USB3, and this page will cover your power output question. Yosemite is not going to change power output over USB.
