Mid 2012 Macbook Pro connect to Samsung TV Help

Afternoon

I know this question has probably been asked many times before but i'm really struggling to connect my Macbook Pro to my Samsung Smart TV

I've tried a few cables with mixed results - whether or not thats down to the quality of the cable or not i'm not sure

Basically, what are peoples suggestions for connecting a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro to a Samsung TV so i can mirror the Laptop screen

Few questions;
Is Thunderbolt the same as MiniPort?
Can i use Miniport to HDMi cable via THunderbolt?
Which cables work with sound?
What are people opinion of Plex?
