Mid 2012 MBP I7 VS Late 2018 MBP I5?

Can someone help me with this question. Does it really matter? My current 2.9 GHz and the 2018 is only 2.3 GHz.


I have a mid 2012 I7 2.9 gHz and want the 2018 MBP which is I5 and 2.3 GHz.

Which models are you comparing exactly? The 2018 one has more cores and higher turbo clocks, so it’s certainly faster than any MBP before.

I assume the 13”? The 2018 CPU is going to be 30% or so faster in single-threaded workloads and twice as fast in multi-core. The new CPUs don’t just have higher click limits but also are in improved architecture with more internal execution units and more efficient code execution.
