Back in December I had my logic board replaced by a local authorized Apple repair place as a result of the discrete video card going bad. Whenever the machine switched to the discrete card, it would lock up within seconds and shut off.
These days, the machine seems pretty stable, but I am getting periodic lockups that result in it powering off after 10-15 seconds of being frozen. The interesting thing to me is that the problem always seems to present itself while I'm browsing the web in Safari. It doesn't seem to happen with Chrome or any other application, only when running Safari. Could be a coincidence, I suppose.
I'm at a loss for troubleshooting this problem. I don't see anything in my log files. When it shuts off, I have to hit the power button to bring it back up. It chimes like it's coming back from a shutdown, so I know it's not just going to sleep.
Any ideas? It's not something I can reasonably demonstrate to a technician as it could occur 5 minutes or 30 minutes into browsing the web. I'm thinking about calling up Apple tech support to see if I can ship it back to them under the extended support thing they're doing for this model (they reimbursed my for my logic board replacement) to see if they can replicate anything.... and while they're at it, have them replace the battery.
