Hi all,

One of my friends is selling a mid 2015 15 inch mbp (16gb ram, 2.5ghz i7, 512gb ssd) for $1,000 and i am considering purchasing it.

Currently i have a mid 2014 13 inch mbp (16gb ram, 3.0 ghz i7, 512gb ssd).

I am wondering how much people think i will notice a difference in performance given the 3.0 ghz vs 2.5ghz - although knowing the 15inch has much more space.

I've always had either a 12inch powerbook back in the day or 13inch and always thought about getting a 15 inch but they were way out of my price range. This seems like in my range but wasn't sure if i'll find it too big, or bulky, and if i'll notice any differences in performance.

Appreciate everyones thoughts!

I'm no expert but I don't think you will see a big difference in performance between the two. I used that laptop for work for several years running photoshop CS and photo mechanic at the same time and it worked perfectly. And, those specs are all higher than the same 15" retina MacBook Pro that Apple is selling new on their website right now:

Even in the education store it is selling for $1799. So if the laptop you want to buy is a retina screen and it is in good shape and working properly, I'd buy that baby in a second at that price. By the way, I have the 13" 2015 MacBook Pro with the 2.9 Intel Core i5 processor with everything on it that my former work laptop had and it is great. And no way is the 15" too big or bulky. You will love the bigger screen.

That's a hell of a price for that machine, I would. It was originally sold for $2,499 until October 2016. Advantages over the 13" model you have now: higher resolution larger screen, discrete graphics, faster SSD, noticeably faster CPU (quad-core, more L3 cache), Force Touch track pad, and finally better resale value.

Yes definitely - I too had always wanted a 15" but couldn't afford it, traded up from a 13" 2011 to a 2012 rMBP 15" and didn't find it bulky at all... certainly the footprint is larger than a 13", but it's still rather svelte and significantly more powerful - and the screen real estate is quite nice too

Significant performance difference. Bulk is only something you can tell. They still sell them at Apple stores, so you can try one there if you friend cannot loan it to you for a bit.

And $1,000 is a killer price for this model. In summer 2016, the best I could do on a new one was $2,150.
