Hi all,

I'm looking to improve the gaming performance on my Macbook pro mid 2014. I've been looking at eGPU's

Now i know that my Macbook only has Thunderbolt 2 ports. My Question is with the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 cable, would i be able to use a Thunderbolt 3 eGPU enclosure with a non top of the line GPU (G force 660ti). I know that's not the top spec graphics card but it would let me play games i like to play at best graphics settings. I dont mind boot camping my Mac if needed as i have a copy of Windows 10, although i am running High Sierra. I dont really want to go down the line of having to buy a dedicated Gaming PC or a whole new Macbook. This seems to be the best "Bang for Buck" option i can see.

Hi there,

I am currently running an Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1070 eGPU, it is definitely worth the £550+ I paid for it. However it took me a little while to get it up and running. On the down side.... the 'Meltdown' supplemental update has completely killed the drivers (Nvidia):mad::(, so now i'm back to the poor HD Intel 3000 chip in my mac mini. If you are running windows then I think it could be a good choice, but as I say it worked well up until the update 10.3.2 (17C205).

If you go down this route, then I would suggest not doing the supplemental update for now until you can get drivers for whatever option you go for when you do decide to update your mbp. For me, I'm just slightly annoyed with myself as I updated my machine after a very long day (yup i work in IT lol).

However there is plenty of information out there on the web for what you are looking for especially mac specific. Have a look at the post Macbook pro 2014 and MSI GTX970 eGPU, there is a link in there somewhere which can get you started. Good luck :)
