Mid-2014's Selling as New?

Why are a lot vendors selling mid-2014 MacBook Pros 15s when it's well into 2015? Are buyers just clearing out old and overstocked inventory?

I believe Apple has continued making the MacBook Pro in its current version well into this year, 2015. Some are saying clearly they come with OS X Mavericks which means these MacBook Pros are already 6-months or more old.

If it comes with Mavericks, you have to install Yosemite and that's not necessarily a clean install. It may be easy, but it's still not a clean factory install.

I though NEW meant NEW!

If you're referring to 15" MacBook Pros, it's because the most current version is the Mid-2014 model. Only the 13" MBP has been updated in 2015, so far. If they haven't sold yet, they don't go back into inventory and update the OS version. The buyer can easily do that when they open it.

They may have old inventory, or maybe it's new stock from Apple that happens to have an old version of OSX.

It's close enough to a clean factory install that it really doesn't matter.

New hardware with a full 1 year warranty IS new.
