Sadly, a local "specialist" screwed up my beloved BTO MacBook pro and I am now in the process of replacing the logic board. All is going well except that for some reason they removed the black adhesive film patch that is stuck to the case directly below the CPU, exposing bare casing. It's a patch about 30mm square and checking on another similar unit, seems slightly thicker than the black plastic film stuck to the rest of the case interior.

What I am wondering is whether the missing patch needs to be replaced by something with special thermal properties, or is it just for electrical insulation. If so, why is it thicker?

Would be grateful for any knowledgeable guidance with this.

I've never taken my 2014 and 2015 MBPs apart but am curious as to what happens. I have had cars damaged by mechanics before and this sounds like that.
