Mid and high tier iMacs - Purchasing discussion

Assuming the mid and high end iMacs coming soon are in similar Pro and Max flavours like the MBP . . .

1. Are you interested in getting one?
2. Which one will you get?
3. Do you feel the Max is overkill for the average user?
4. For those who keep their iMacs for the long term, as in 5-10 years, do you think the Max is worth it or will the Pro suffice them?
5. How much RAM do you think is needed for this level of machine.

This is all assuming at least some level of content creation is being done. The low end M1 is enough for pure content consumption.

Do you have any other opinions on the potentially upcoming mid and higher tier M1 iMacs?

1. Are you interested in getting one?

No

2. Which one will you get?

N/A

3. Do you feel the Max is overkill for the average user?

Yes

4. For those who keep their iMacs for the long term, as in 5-10 years, do you think the Max is worth it or will the Pro suffice them?

Since nothing is replaceable, I would go for the Max; maximum GPU cores & RAM for "future-proofing", and the doubled UMA bandwidth is nice...

5. How much RAM do you think is needed for this level of machine.

All of it, more RAM means less swapping to the SSD...

I’d argue that the base M1s will be fine for most content creation too. It’s only been just over a year since everyone was hailing them as game changing.
