Hi there, it happens to me too, there's no solution yet and I am really disappointed with Safari team to have neglected this common useful feature for this new Safari 4 Beta release. Amazing to realize how careless and stubborn they can be.
Safari - Can't close tab with Middle Click. Why? Think different.
I have been using this hint but since I updated to Safari 4 Beta its not possible to close tabs with middle click anymore, but I can still open links with it.
Is there a solution ?

Um, it's a beta. Betas aren't supposed to be complete versions, or it wouldn't be a beta. If the feature still doesn't work in the public 1.0, then complain.
It's not a feature, it's a hack. New versions of software often break hacks, and you'll just have to wait for the same guy or somebody else to release a plugin that does the same thing. Apple has nothing to do with it.
Use Glims for Middle Click CLOSE TABS!!!
I just upgraded my Glims Plug In for Safari, and it has Enable Tab Closing Using Middle Click feature!!!

Shame on Safari team for continuing development and breaking an unauthorized, messy third-party hack? Yes, shame, shame. Almost as bad as having the nerve to make their MacBooks Pro faster yesterday. They're not half the company they used to be.
Edrian, and half of the people in the thread about the MacBook Pro speed bumps for some reason. I don't get it.
