MIDI Controller not showing up?

Hello all,

I recently purchased the midi controller Vestax Spin to start DJing a bit on my MacBook Pro but when plugging it into my usb, it wasn't recognized or anything. I know it's on because of the light on the Spin. Wanted to know if there's anything I can do?

P.S. Sometimes when I do plug in the Vestax Spin I get this error on the screen telling me to power down or restart the computer. Any help on this matter would be great.

In order:
Does it appear in the System info? (About this Mac -> More info -> USB.)
Did you select it in the Audio/Midi devices?
Did you install the djay application?
Do you have speakers hooked up to the Spin?
Etc.
