I need to migrate to an Intel iMac from a crashed g5 iMac. (Diagnostic lights indicate a bad main board on the g5)
Can the g5 HD be simply swapped to the new intel iMac or am I asking for major issues?
Would it be easier to get an external HD enclosure and proceed from there?

Some of the G5 iMacs had a PATA disk interface, which would not be compatible. Intel iMacs use a different partitioning scheme so the drive would not be bootable as-is.

Mount it in an external housing and copy files to the Intel machine.

1. see if you can get old computer into firewire mode, in that case, use migration assistant

2. see if Apple Store would transfer it for you.
