Hi all.

Recently my mighty mouse scroll wheel as lost the ability to scroll upwards. I presume it's like the ball on the bottom of an old mouse and needs cleaning but don't know how to get into it to clean??

thanks for help in advance.

The scroll wheel in the Mighty Mouse is constantly getting gummed up with skin oils and dirt. And it will continue to do so.

The short term remedy is to turn it upside down on a sheet of paper and roll the ball very hard.

If that doesn't work, unplug it, take some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, and clean the ball.

Repeat until you get frustrated enough to go out and buy a $10 replacement mouse.

Use 99% rubbing alcohol on a paper towel.
Place the paper towel over your mouse pad (I like the WOWPAD -- microthin.com) and pour a little bit of alcohol over it. Then, turn you mouse upside down and roll your mouse ball over it in a figure eight pattern several times. Then use that same alcohol soaked paper towel to clean the rest of the mouse and the mouse pad. BONUS: Then clean the underside of the WOWPAD and it will stay in-place on your desktop better.
Do this once a month and you will LOVE your Mighty Mouse.;)

Don't do it too hard. My first MM started scrolling down only, so I did the upside down thing, rubbed it really hard, and when I plugged it back in, the scroll ball didn't work at all!

Sadly, having used a MM once, I could never go back to a mouse without a scroll ball now.

My wireless mouse had same problem. Just pick up mouse, press down both buttons, turn it upside down while holding buttons and move the ball. This fix (found it on another forum) fixed my mouse.

Mine did that.
I took a scalpel and cracked it open.
it was a bigger to take apart but the ball has four axis pins around it.
mine were coated in grit and hair (GROSS!!!!....and I'm a clean person...promise :D)
after a clean and putting it back together it was like new!

total time...bout 20mins.
