My MBP's logic board died. Good Hard drive & Time Machine backup. MBP running Mavericks. Have new iMac coming in a few days running Mountain Lion. (yes I'm sure it's Mountain Lion). Can I migrate at start up or do I have to set up & get Mavericks on iMac 1st and use migration later? If anyone has done this or knows the proper steps I could really use the help. Thanks

I recall using Migration Assistant at least once to do a "backward migration" such as you're contemplating. It worked for me.

I suggest you give Migration Assistant a try first, to see if it works for you.

If it doesn't, then think about an OS upgrade.

I stopped by the Apple Store on the way home today. The kid said no problem, just migrate at set up. I don't know why it still makes me nervous. Maybe I'll try it tomorrow. I guess I'll find out. I'll post what happens. Thanks
