Migrating backup from old to new drive

I have an external drive which I'm using as backup with TIMEMACHINE. my system is an IMAC with Leopard 10.5.6. My external drive is already full and I will get a bigger one (old one is 250GB new one will be 500GB) how can I transfer all backup from the old to the new External HDD and keep using the new external HDD as my back up?? :confused:
