I think this is what I want to do, but not sure about the safest method.
What I am trying to do
MACHINE ONE (retiring this one):
Mac Pro 3,1 Early 2008
4 Internal 1TB Hard Drives (one with a "copy" of the System Files OS 10.8.5)
1 SSD Samsung Evo Boot Drive connected to Apricorn Velocity Solo x2 PCI card.
MACHINE TWO (new arriving tomorrow):
Mac Pro 2012 5,1 6-Core 3.33
I would like to just unplug the 4 Internal Hard Drives (all relatively new and full of Client Data mostly) from my 3,1 and just plug them in to the new 5,1
I will be taking the SSD Drive and PCI card (both only a few days old) and installing them into the new 5,1 PCI slot and using it as the Boot Drive eventually just like I am currently.
Here are my concerns:
The new Mac Pro will be coming with a new 1TB drive with 10.8 already installed (as well as new OS install discs I assume). My current boot drive (now the SSD as of last week) is functioning, but I am concerned as that OS has been upgraded and patched for 5 years and I know I have some type of user ID issue, so this would be the perfect opportunity to start "clean" with a new OS.
(1) What would be the best way to transfer all my current files from the SSD Boot Drive I have to the same drive installed in the new machine, but with a clean OS installed (i.e. I want to keep all my current Apps and Settings)?
(2) Can you see any problems with me just transferring the 4 Internal Hard Drives from a 3,1 to a 5,1 Mac Pro?
(3) I know I have to DEACTIVATE certain software like Creative Cloud, Astute Graphics Plugins and maybe MS Office before making the transfer, but I am wondering if there is a reference somewhere of all software for Macs that require this Deactivation/Reactivation procedure? I may have other App that require this???
Thanks!
