Yesterday I ordered the 21,5" iMac from the Apple Store and I currently have a MacBook Pro with iLife 09 installed + GarageBand 11 from the App Store.

I'm going to migrate my files using a Time Machine backup, but I have no idea if my current iLife 09 applications will overwrite the preinstalled iLife 11 apps. As I can't exclude iLife apps from the migration, I have to ask if any of you have experience with this same problem? It wouldn't be nice if there was extra hassle because of "downgrading" apps.

They shouldn't "downgrade". I've done tons of migrations over the years and never had an old version of an app overwrite a newer one. Enjoy your new Mac! :)

You can test this yourself by copying Garage Band.app to Garage Band11.app, iWeb.app to iWeb11.app, etc and then doing the migration. If the migration puts back old versions of iLife, the new ones won't be overwritten and can be invoked for example by "iweb11" in Spotlight.

Oops. I didn't see the other post. It sounds like you don't have to worry about downgrading. Careful about opening an iPhoto library in iPhoto 11 without backing it up first. I remember hearing about data loss going to iPhoto 11 which is why I still haven't upgraded to the latest iLife.

Wow, thanks for the fast replies. I guess I will just sit back and do the migration, and worry afterwards if there is any reason to. :)
