Thought I would post this somewhere since I couldn't find an answer anywhere. I was running Windows 7 32 bit through Boot Camp and wanted to upgrade to Windows 8 64 bit. The only way to accomplish this is a clean install with the upgrade DVDs. You can't do this with the downloaded edition. Also, there is no GUI interface for upgrading in this way. You have to boot from the Windows 64-bit DVD - put it in your drive in Windows, reboot, and when it says "press any key to boot from the DVD," do that. This drove me mad for hours yesterday since the documentation says "just insert the 32 bit version and we'll tell you which one you need" which never comes up. Be aware, you will lose all of your documents and programs but the advantage is that the 64 bit version of Windows can use more than 2 GB of RAM. Hope this is helpful to someone!
