Okay so I need help on how to properly migrate from my existing imac (Late 2012 model) to a newer (mid 2015) imac.

My current mac is running off of an external 256GB SSD drive connected via Thunderbolt. The internal HDD is not being used.

The new mac has a regular (non hybrid) internal HDD so I would like to continue to use the same external SSD on this machine. What is the best way to move my OS/files installation over to this mac?

I'm assuming its not as simple as just unplugging the external SSD and plugging it into the new mac since the drivers and such will not be configured correctly for the new hardware.

Thanks for the help!

It should be as easy as plugging in the external SSD, if it has an OS on it that will support the new (mid 2015) iMac. I believe you will need a OS greater than 10.10.2.
