I am getting a new ATv 4k 2nd Gen and have question about migrating from current ATv 4k 1st Gen.

According to this article:

"If you have more than one Apple TV associated with the same Apple ID, you can keep the same appearance and apps for each device. This makes it seamless to switch between an Apple TV in the bedroom and one in the living room, for example.
Open Settings Settings on Apple TV.
Go to Users and Accounts > [default user account name] and turn on One Home Screen"

So if I sign in to the new one (with old one still powered on, but not connected to TV as I only have one TV), will settings and apps be copied from the old one? How does iCloud decide which is master? Maybe it would make the new one the master and delete all apps and settings from the old one?

Or is there another way altogether?

Thanks

The One Home Screen is the easiest way. I have 3 ATVs of various vintages (all 4K)... and it keeps everything in sync... also synced up a new ATV out of the box.

Thanks very much...just what I wanted to hear.

A warning for One Home Screen, if you have mixed storage sizes, and there is a lot of data on the 64GB unit, this can cause issues when syncing to a 32GB ATV.

This can also happen with just two of the same size as well.

I had to turn off One Home Screen due to this, and this was with all 64GB ATVs.

If you don’t have games, this is pretty much a non-issue.

The One Home Screen feature is a great feature for keeping your apps aligned on multiple ATVs. However, it does not sync settings. Only the apps and Home screen layout.

It is not necessary to keep your other ATV powered on as the cloud functions as the primary template. This means once you have the apps you like installed on an ATV this info, including your Home Screen layout, is synced to the cloud. Any subsequent ATVs you add to your account then read the apps and layout from the cloud. In the case of a new ATV once you log in to your iCloud account, enable the One Home Screen feature in the settings, the apps will be automatically downloaded. You will still need to log into the apps, though.

Thanks everyone. All went smoothly. The worst part was signing in to everything again, though the ability to do this on phone and iPad helped a lot.
