I have a 2011 iMac with a boot SSD. Around 200gigs on it. I got a 21" Retina iMac with the Fusion drive. The old iMac is running OSX 10.11.1. I am trying to use Migration Assistant with sleep turned off on the old iMac, wireless off and an Ethernet wire between both computers. It starts off at 80MB/s and then keeps decreseasing to around 6MB/s and seems stalled after 3 hours. How long is this supposed to take? Should I leave it running overnight? I only have a TM backup on the internal hard drive of my old iMac. I could make a TM backup on a USB drive using the old iMac and then restore that to the new one but this defeats the whole point of MA! I don't have a thunderbolt cable and I have tried the MA twice and it always appears to be stalled at the same place ( half way). I did check the drive on the old Mac and it's fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mine took a while using the same method (2009 to 2015). However I had an issue when one of the macs tried to go to sleep, I disabled the option on energy saving on both machines and it worked fine after that.

I transferred around 500Gb from my 2011 iMac to my new iMac connected via Ethernet using Set Up Assistant in about 1 hour.

Thanks for the sleep tip. I disabled sleep on the old iMac and the migration worked. It took a little over 1.5 hours.
