I have a new 13" i7 MacBook Air and began migration from my most recent time machine backup of my C2D MacBook.

It went horribly wrong.

My music shows up in search, but not in my iTunes folder. Viewing disk space usage shows there's only 900MB of music, when there should be 13GB+. Photos are also only showing 9GB when there should be over 16GB.

No apps appear in the applications folder, despite there being apps to launch via spotlight. Other apps are missing all together.

What went wrong? How do I start over from scratch? And what's the better way to do it?

That's strange. I migrated to a 13" MBA from a 2008 15" MBP using my time machine backup, and everything went perfectly. All my settings, apps, files, even the arrangement of my desktop on two monitors. I was actually surprised because this never went so well for me in the past.

Are you sure there aren't problems with your time machine backup disk?
